Unhappy http cache and prime95

Hope someone may have a suggestion/workaround...

All my prime95 clients (v23.7.1) have been unable to connect back to the Primenet server lately. This was apparently since the networking group of our organization instituted a squid http cache on our network. The clients just get primenet error 1.

A sniff of the network traffic seems to point at the cache blocking the traffic and our networks group arent in any hurry to fix this for me :-(

Anyone have any ideas to work around this? Seems like the newer versions of prime95 dont support the older RPC style connectivity.

If there are no workarounds I guess I'll just have to use the manual assignments.

Thanks.
Rob.

Try ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v238.zip

This isn't the official 23.8 release. It is v23.7 with one bug fix for a user that was getting Primenet Error 1.

If that fails add "Debug=1" to primenet.ini and post your prime.log file.

Post your primenet.ini will (without password). Maybe someone using squid can help you get it set up properly.

My primenet.ini is empty except for the debug line added above....

The squid cache is set in some transparent mode. (i.e. I don't have to make any modifications to the web browser proxy settings to get out. )

Thanks for your quick responses!
Rob
