Hmm, I just realized after taking a second look at my calendar that I'll be a little late for the upcoming rally. It start at 3 P.M. EDT on the 12th, and I'll be getting back in the evening. I'll have to think about how I'll handle that regarding my machines and when I switch them over.

Gary, I'm thinking we should have at least n~=10K worth of work in the port 9000 PRPnet server before the rally starts. Right now we've got just a little under 2K, so that means loading 8K. That should adequately cover Lennart's hordes, plus Sloth, plus anyone else who decides to join on that server in the rally. (And if it doesn't, it should at least cover the first couple of days, so I'll be home in plenty of time to load more.)

I'll let you figure out how much to load into LLRnet port 3000 for the rally.

Hi all,

Last night, my main computer apparently went kaputz--I woke up to find it turned off and refusing to turn on again. After some investigation (and conferring with Gary, our resident empirical expert on blown computers

) I believe it's the power supply that went. I have a new one on order that should come within about a week.

In the meantime, I'm getting online via the old P3-550 that I've had doing 1-2 pairs/hour on port 7000 for the last month or two.

It works, but is painfully slow, so my access to the forums and whatnot will be a little limited. I should, however, still be able to pop in at least once/day.

Anyway, just wanted to give you all a heads-up. This is a somewhat slow time at NPLB and CRUS so the effect probably won't be enormous as far as everybody except me is concerned.

And....I'm back!

I got the power supply in the mail today and installed it--worked like a charm.

As an added bonus, I cleaned out the computer while I had it open, so now my CPU is back down to a nice cool 53C (it was up at 83C before).

Now to catch up with the admin tasks that piled up over the last 1.5 weeks...I was able to do some things on my temporary computer, but not everything since it was very slow and didn't have my files on it.

Agreed. However, for lack of a better place (they don't really go in "Server outages") we've traditionally posted in this thread regarding admin vacations/inavailabilities/etc. I suppose we could make an "Admin outages" thread to handle those, though we really wouldn't have much to put it in very often...

Seriously, is there no project news?

I'm working on a new set of charts, a truck load of code refactoring for web pages and some server-side caching all combining to reduce bandwidth and disk I/O and cpu usage and make the pages serve faster to you our glorious project participants. Oh. And the charts should look prettier. They look even prettier when you all add more cpus.

I'm putting up the next rally page.

That's news.
It'll be better news when it's all implemented.
But its news.
