Do not try to find cat.exe on the net - you will most likely only get trojans. (The trojan writers rightly think that if one doesn't know what cat.exe is and doesn't care what it does, they will gladly put it \Program Files or \Windows\system32 folder.)

cat, ls, wc are the basic un*x and subsequently linux commands. MinGW and CygWin implement them. However MinGW doesn't have perl.

This led to a very unexpected bug in the version of cygwin1.dll that I found on dll-files.com. It came up with an error message (I forget exactly what it was). That was 1005.18.0.0, and the working one I am now using (which I found hidden away in my pari folder) is 1005.25.0.0. How serious is this?
