Am I the only who thinks that, at least temporarily, the writers for the talk shows going on strike has made the shows MORE entertaining, rather than less? People say the want the "real" Ellen Degeneres. Well, you can't get any realer than absolutely no canned dialogue, whatsoever, can you?
It's probably going to get old real fast. But, at the moment, it's more of a,"How awkward is so-and-so going to be THIS time?" Comments? |

I hardly ever watch any of the drivel on network TV anyway - just don't mess with my Brazilian telenovelas on the spanglish stations and give me some decent college football games every weekend, and I'm fine.
So, yeah, put me firmly in the "what if the TV writers went on strike and no one noticed?" camp. |

TV writers are on strike? Must have missed that thread...Would that be in Misc. Math, or Science & Technology?

No TV here. We watch "House" every week (via, um, The Pirate Bay) just to watch Cameron and #13.
Well, we have a TV, just no cable and no rabbit ears. Since we got rid of the cable we seem to get a lot more work done. Very odd, eh? Besides, all the old Monty Python stuff is on YouTube. What else do you need? |

I wasn't comparing her ability to mine, but you can definitely tell the writers are gone. It IS, in fact, possible and permitted for me to say that someone sucks at something even if I suck worse. Haven't you ever yelled at a sports star on TV even though you know your A-game is worse than their worst performance.

I predict: More reality TV and back catalogs. Too bad I'm not the only one.

One hopes that among these 2nd and 3rd-string scripted shows there may be a diamond in the rough, but given the bleakness of the vast creative wasteland that is Hollywood and the US network-television industry, that seems highly unlikely. Last fiddled with by ewmayer on 2007-11-26 at 20:35 |

The mid-seasons that have already been shot/scripted are being rolled out early too. "Notes from the Underbelly" and "October Road" are 2 notable examples. I have some personally insight/knowledge about these 2. Other projects that have been on the shelf are being produced as well. One favourable/yet unpleasent happenstance will be, shows will appear that were 2nd or 3rd tier. Some may survive and be promoted to top-shelf, while others that folks will begin to like will die after a few episodes, thus bringing anguish. Maybe there are a few scripts laying around for Law and Order (in the various forms [L&O', SVU, CI, Trail by Jury, Crime & Punishment(footage), Conviction), that never got shot for some reason, these could be packaged into a mini-series.
There must be more scripts for "Commander in Chief" laying around. |
