Just thick the appropriate box in preferences section to get an exponent above 10M digits or, if available, an exponent below 10M digits.

The performance hit only occurs during P-1 stage 2, when the program takes up a lot of memory. You can limit the max amount, though, it´s just a matter of going to Options -> CPU and entering the desired amount. Higher values will give you higher chances of finding a factor during Stage 2. As for the bulk of the test (LL test) the amount of memory taken is negligible. And because the program runs at the lowest priority, it only uses idle CPU time, which means performance won´t by any means be hurt. Your wife may rest assured...

Understood. It was the P-1 that was killing it for some reason, even though memory was set at only ~45% for each core and the 2nd core was doing LL. Dropping each core to 25% (250MB of 1GB) seems to have done the trick.

We have little children, and now she's complaining though that the laptop is melting nearby crayons on the table! LOL

I use the exhaust from 2 computers to dry my boots when needed, wich is quite often these days :) remember people, i'ts nice to step into preheated boots.
