It seems that this Spanish-title fad has gotten pretty big!

Anyways, back on topic, I've never seen any Spanish soap operas. However, speaking of telenovelas, I thought that I'd share some of my rather interesting experiences in the Spanish classes that I took in high school.

The first time I took a Spanish class for credit (Spanish I) was during my freshman year. The first teacher was very nice, but she quit early in the year. The second teacher was also pretty nice, although I felt that the first teacher was better. About two-thirds through the year, the second teacher quit as well. For several weeks, my class was taught by a substitute who knew very little Spanish. Finally, the remainder of the class was taught by a teacher who didn't care much. Of course, this impacted my learning experience.

Despite this, the school still put me in Spanish II Honors, where I barely got a passing grade! Had it not been for the problems I experienced in Spanish I, I would have done much better in Spanish II Honors. I started taking Spanish III at the beginning of 11th grade, and the teacher (the same one who taught Spanish II Honors) kicked me out.

Near the end of Spanish II Honors (mid-2002), we were studying telenovelas (Spanish soap operas). We were put into small groups, and each group was required to film a telenovela.

I remember that the other kids in my group were named David, Sarah, Michelle, and Shannon; David and I played the bad guys, while the girls played good people. I don't remember much of the plot, except that Sarah's character, Sarita, got killed. Of course, we had small conflicts during the project, but other than that, we had a great time.

On another note, Shannon, the director of my group, is now a somewhat famous country singer in the Bay Area (visit her website to learn more). I'm hoping that she'll make the international charts one day!
