Default Custom Google search...

It is at the bottom of the main page... It is very lame at the moment, but I have been told that the more it gets used the more Google will index our site...

Please, for now, don't rely on it for your primary searching needs, but feel free to play around with it...

Comments? Suggestions?

Better start pumping that pump handle, folks. A search for "factor" got only 3 hits (2 displayed). For "prime" it found 11 hits (7 displayed).

"Factoring" resulted in 4 hits (3 displayed) and 9 ads.

Can you add this META tags on the pages?

[code:1]
<head>

<title>[...]</title>

<meta content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type>

<meta content="safe for kids" name=rating>

<meta

content="Organized search for Mersenne numbers - forum." name=description>

<meta content="Mersenne Numbers Mersenne Primes GIMPS Mersenne Prime Numbers" name=keywords>

</head>
[/code:1]

I think I remember reading somewhere that stuff in the META tags isn't important to the way google searches. But I could be refering to something completely different; I'm no expert :? .

Hah, I tried both "poach" and "poaching," and neither turned up anything! :D

I know Google doesn't use them to determine how to rank a page, but a meta tag will result in a hit. I just finished a Google search (unrelated to Mersennes *gasp*), and the later pages devolved into those sites that put things in their meta tags just to get anywhere in the search. Somehow I doubt that when I'm searching for sauce pans, that a page that starts out "Female Viagra Hot Chicks Bondage Action" is going to have anything that I'm looking for.

Yes, but how you can be 100% sure unless you try?

Is it possible to have the Google search open up a new window -- the same way links do? I hate trying to backtrack to a page (like this forum) :) only to discover my history list is too short.

I would much rather have to close a few windows after I've found what I'm hunting for. (or been sidetracked by something more interesting) ;)

Actually, it would be great if the (Post reply) button opened a new window as well.

It only takes a few clicks on [Preview] to fill up that history list.

Some options for you...

1) Hold down the shift key when you click it...
2) Right click -> "Open in New Window"...
3) Use Mozilla or Firebird, and use tabs...

(I could probably change the source, but I think most people would want it the way it is... I'm not smart enough to code in a profile option for choosing which variant you would want either...)
