Posting 5000 to 6079. Only 2 new jumping champions.
I have now moved on to the 30001-30100 n test, running k from 1M to 4.5M, and sieving to 35G. Testing one n appears to take 2 hours 50 minutes for sieve and LLR, so that the 101 values will take 11.9 days, and I expect just over 1 twin. I am running this on a clapped out Gateway in extreme heat 36 degrees celsius in the day, and 27 at night. Don't know how to cool it! LLR tests are taking between 2.7 and 7 seconds, the machine is extremely variable. Maybe others would like to pitch in, and get this test complete this weekend. Just to give you guys a heads up, I've been testing n=33200 and n=34528 for twins as well. So far I've gotten to k=217M for n=33200 and k=56M for n=34528. No twins yet... I think I'll stop doing these n's when I get them to k=250M.

Not sure why you are working at these low, individual, n values - if you find a twin it will not be archivable, nor will any individual prime found have any real value.

I'm not doing those so they can be archived, but this project will get there eventually
In any case, I don't have the computing power or patience for the results that get in to the prime pages, for example. Also, I haven't found a twin that high yet, so it's something to go for.I think I'm going to cut my range down to n=8825->9500. 2923959*2^30023+1 is prime! Time : 3.691 sec. So quite happy I found a twin in the forecast range. Took me 4 days to find, so reckon I did about 35% of the total range. Will stop this test. I am thinking about heading towards an archivable prime, using a range of 1000 n, anyone interested in this challenge? |

Such a test might be 71001 to 72000, sieve k from 2 to 2656000 until P=120 bn. This takes about 35 minutes on my computer and produces a file with about 1300 candidates. Llring on my machine takes 20 secs, so that is 7 hours 30 minutes for one n, or 321 days for the total range of n.
Given power cuts here in B'Desh, and high temperatures, this is not feasible unless others join. I am sure that one bank of dual/quad core fast machines, operating at a decent temperature would knock this off very quickly. Even better is for someone to create an automated distributed project, that doles out candidates and reports back primes. This value could be used as the test. |
