I get the following output from Prime95 around midnight every day (or at least on many days, I am not always there to check). Is this normal or do I have a memory problem I need to look into? Thanks in advance for your help.
[May 04 23:16] Iteration: 3260000 / 38476829 [8.47%]. Per iteration time: 0.331 sec. Restarting with new memory settings. Starting P-1 factoring with B1 =390000, B2=3120000 Chance of finding a factor is an estimated 4.44% P-1 on M38476829 with B1 =390000, B2=3120000 Using FFT length 2048K [May 04 23:56] M38476829 stage 2 is 12.29% complete. Time: 1501.387 sec. Restarting with new memory settings. Starting P-1 factoring with B1 =390000, B2=3120000 Chance of finding a factor is an estimated 4.44% P-1 on M38476829 with B1 =390000, B2=3120000 Using FFT length 2048K Not enough memory available to run stage 2 now. Will try again at a later time. Resuming primality test of M38476829 at iteration 3267750 [8.49%] [May 05 00:04] Iteration: 3270000 / 38476829 [8.49%]. Per iteration time: 0.110 sec. By the way, does anyone know how I can save the screen output? |

It is not a memory problem, ie bad chips. It is that Prime 95 uses a lot of memory to do the 'stage 2' part of the 'P-1' test. It is normally set to only to do it when a lot of memory is available (like at night).
Did you change the 'day time/night time' or 'memory' settings in Prime 95? Have you read the help file? |

Thanks for the help. Sorry to take so long to reply, I have been away all week. I had read the help file and increased the memory available but I had only increased it for the day settings before midnight. Prime 95 was starting factoring 5 minutes before midnight when it had lots of memory but five minutes later it was taken away again - unfortunate timing. It is working fine now; again thanks for the help to a newbie.
