We consider ourselves lucky to have a (somewhat) paved driveway. And a garage.

What do you get when you combine numerous prescription horse pills, alcohol, boredom and a new pair of Fiskar scissors?

Well, the alcohol part did not happen.

PSA: Correct Cairn Terrier grooming. We have, and use, the "regular stripping knife, but it is a very labor intensive and we are, um, lazy.

For some odd reason we have not seen the Trolls all day.

Default This has me quite concerned ...

In the last 4 or so months a certain individual has completed 36 DC tests in the 24M and 25M ranges. That should be good news except that:

- None were obviously assigned to him/her; though a few were assigned to ANONYMOUS.
- They are all currently assigned as DC to a total of 15 (or more) different owners. Anonymous may not be one person.
- But none of his/her completions had error codes (i.e. none need triple checks)
- All but one of these assignments were from 2010 or early 2011.
- But had been updated by the owner in the last 60 days (many in the last week).
- In other words none were close to expiring.
- All have some degree of progress many 70% and up.

This might partly explain why there are so many in the 24M range assigned to DC that don't need it.
I hope I am wrongly concerned.
It would be nice if there was a good explanation that has escaped me.
i.e. Does he/she have 15 aliases/team mates?

There's not much any of us can do about it, save perhaps George if that certain someone gave their email address.

(s)he is a bounty hunter, dead set on reducing our milestones. I don't see the problem, but that's because my job has me conditioned to focus on results, not feelings... Understandably, one could argue that is discourages those who were making slow but steady progress, but not allowing it would discourage the sniper who threw decent power towards it. Just my 2c...

It's not just discouragement of the slow-but-steadies, but it actually reduces GIMPS' throughput. The sniper could have just let the others finish their job and been doing other, unassigned expos; those other unassigned expos would be done now, and the expos the sniper poached will done soon anyways, except without the other ones done now.

As Dubslow points out, this should be discouraged, as it lowers PrimeNet's throughput.

There have been at least two cases where the individual in question has completed work which had been assigned to GPU72 workers after the system was assigned an expired candidate for processing by PrimeNet; we generally complete the work quickly. There have probably been more -- beyond detecting such cases and warning the assignee, GPU72 doesn't monitor such situations.

But as Dubslow also points out, there's not much anyone can do except George.

It has been suggested in the past that PrimeNet be modified such that credit for LL/DC completion goes to the "official" assignee, regardless of who completes the assignment. I doubt this would appease the legitimate worker much, nor discourage the "poacher".

This doesn't take away, however, from the fact that there is unnecessary duplication of effort.

Default Achievements.

Tomorrow is the centenary of Alan Turing's birth.

A measure of how much I've achieved in my life is that by the time Turing was my age he'd been dead for 14 years.
