I was playing around with my factoring computer a few days ago. Using the Advanced menu, I asked it to test M11213. As expected, the computer quickly reported that M11213 is prime. However, since then, every time I try to update the server with that computer, instead of updating the status on the exponent it is supposed to be testing, it only tries to report that M11213 is prime. I tried deleting the entry on the results file, but I am still having this problem. What should I do?

If that is the only message in the prime.spl file, then you can delete that file.
However, why does transmitting this frivolous result cause a problem? The server should just accept it and the client never send it again. |

The server does not accept it because 11213 is not assigned to me. Not only that, the client neglects to update the server on the exponent that it is supposed to be (and is currently) factoring.
Also, what program do I use to open the prime.spl file? |

After 3 days of annoying messages, the client should right itself.

Perhaps a future version or Prime95 could report M11213 as still prime?

The factoring assignment has finished but the client is still trying to tell the server that M11213 is prime instead of reporting the result of the assignment. The client has been so distracted that it hasn't even received a new assignment from the server. Currently, it is idling.

The three days have passed, and there is no sign of any improvement. Here are the exact words:

Again, I would like to ask: How do I open the .spl files? My presumption is that there is a file somewhere in the Prime95 file that still has information about M11213, and I need to delete that information.

What you can check with notepad is the absence of any information about another exponent : the exponents are not coded in those files. If you do not have any REAL completed work to report in the prime.spl file, just delete it. To be sure you do not lose anything make a copy of the prime.spl file before deleting it. |

Well, I tried deleting the prime.spl file (I saved a copy in the desktop just to make sure), and there is some good news and some bad news.
The good news is that the computer received a new factoring assignment from the server. The bad news is that the client did not tell the server that it had finished the previous factoring assignment. By the way, what happened to your username? Last fiddled with by jinydu on 2007-01-03 at 10:31 |

Using Notepad, I tried editing the prime.spl file, which is mostly unreadable and full of spaces. Unfortunately, all this does is cause the client to update PrimeNet on the status of the current exponent. Strangely enough, after the communication with the server, the prime.spl file disappears.
