Hi,
subjectline says it all. Could of course be a malicious report of a client redoing an old prime. http://www.mersenne.org/primenet/status.shtml [code:1] ------- Mersenne Exponent Test State ------- Assigned in Tests Cleared Since Last Synchronization Factoring only : 15036 Factored composite : 19492 Lucas-Lehmer testing : 44798 Lucas-Lehmer composite: 47913 Double-checking LL : 8822 Double-checked LL : 23070 Prime, UNVERIFIED : 1 ---------------------- ------- ---------------------- ------- TOTAL : 68656 TOTAL : 90476[/code:1] |

At least it's not in cleared.txt, but IIRC something has been done to avoid a prime shows up on the server.

Does anyone know what the exponent is or at least an aproximation of it and how soon it can be verified ?

Woo hoo! It looks like the 40th Mersenne prime has been found. It is larger than M13466917, but it is not a 10 million digit prime.
It will take at least a few weeks to verify. I've just emailed Ernst Mayer to see if he is interested. Preliminary congratulations to all! All GIMPS testers are an integral part of this find. |

Any more hints?
Did this person crunch for a team or an individual cruncher? The prime was found in the last couple of days I presume? |

George, will you at least tell us what time the prime was found, and whether it was found today or yesterday.

The prime was found today by a long-time individual cruncher.
Traditionally we use a different program and different hardware to verify the prime. This eliminates program and hardware bugs as a cause of a bogus prime discovery. Ernst's mlucas and gbvalor's glucas are perfect candidates for the verification. |

Time to start up our old hobby of guessing which exponent was reported as prime. Who makes the best guess based on the available information?

I know what it is. But I will respect the need not to reveal until the verification is done.
