I had 2 problems, one with software and one with hardware...
Software problem solved. I needed a clean reinstall of windows to get Prime Torture Test Blend to run. Now that it is running, I am just barely unstable. Rig: 3.4EE - 478, ASUS p4p800 deluxe, 6 HD, Nvidia 6800GT AGP videocard, Thermaltake 480W ps, 1G OCZ PC3200 ram (2X512). All other PCI cards are pulled. I have run prime torture test blend numerous times from XP and from the LINUX A: drive boot disk suggested on another thread, and they both detect hardware errors anywhere from 1 hr to 8 hrs into the test under all of the scenarios I have tried. My vcore is bumped to 1.6v My memory is at 2.85v (MFG says 2.8 is correct) My AGP is bumped to 1.6v (not sure why, suggested by a pal) Heat on the Proc never gets above 47C, MB never above 41C. I am still slightly unstable, with EVERY test returning the following message "rounding 0.5, expected 0.4". I can restart the test immediately with no ill effects, but never stable... HELP? |

Do this at you own peril: In your BIOS-->exit-->Load setup defaults
Before you do, take notes on every setting in your BIOS |

What a pain. Anyways...
Using Linux A: drive boot disk to test stability w/ mprime. All drives and PCI cards pulled. Only thing connected is mouse, keyboard, monitor, memory, 6800GT video card, CPU, PSU. Reset BIOS to defaults. Fail test within 1 hr with "rounding error 0.5, expected less than 0.4" Swapped Processors back AGAIN to 2.8C, failed with same results within 1 hr. Pull 1 stick of memory, same results within 2 hrs. Pull other stick of memory, same results within 5 hrs. AGAIN STOCK SETTINGS FOR ALL THIS TESTING. To me, it's not the memory or the proc. What's left? PSU or the motherboard I guess. The mouse, videocard, or the keyboard wouldn't do this?? SO, long story short, I ordered this PSU from newegg today: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371001 Hopefully it will be OK for my machine to replace my Thermaltake 480W psu with that ANTEC 650W psu. An online watt calc. out there in the world said I need at least 550W to be safe. I hope I bought a good one. Last fiddled with by john6205 on 2006-11-21 at 22:24 |

New PS, same failure
Must be the MOBO or the memory, but I think I have eliminated the memory from the equation. Time for a new MOBO?? HELP. |

What are the identification codes on your memory chips?
Also, what are all of the BIOS settings for the memory? Last fiddled with by paulunderwood on 2006-11-29 at 04:16 |
