Silicone on Motherboard?

Could you spray silicone on the computer to make it able to handle higher temperatures?

I think silicone will act more as an isolation material, so your computer's temperature will rise even more.

It might also be that the silicone will melt and you'll get a gigantically messed up motherboard, so I wouldn't advise doing that.

I think the only good way to cool down your CPU temperature would be placing a good water cooling system.

Are you willing to make case mods? I built a P4 2.4Ghz not to long ago in a mini ATX case that had only 1 fan in the front bottom (talk about a heat trap!) and some vents along the side. I gig sawed 2 80mm (actually 76by77) holes in the top of the case and put 2 case fans blowing up and out of the case. My cpu core when running Prime95v23.4 went from 65c to around 52c and the mobo temp went from 110f to 78f (about room temp and I don’t know why this monitoring software will not display mobo temp in Celsius).

I did the same thing to my case and got similar results. There needs to be blowholes for good circulation in a computer case, not necessarily just intake. Only problem with that is the dust tho. An oc'd PC is better than a vacuum when it comes to bagless efficiency. You can clear a whole house of dust in a month! :(

And cleaning out computers can turn into a profitable sideline - I collect enough fluff to make and sell a small carpet every month or two! :mrgreen:

You just gave me a thought. How about using some clothes drier ducting from the outlet of a HEPA air cleaner and mount it directly to the case, sealing off the front inlet holes? Then mount another fan up high blowing out. Be like a floor cooled computer cabinet in a "dinosaur pen", pressurized cool air from the bottom to a top vented case....

I run my HEPA cleaner anyways, why use the output a bit.... a thought :)

A lot of my cases get some major cooling upgrades - I commonly take the fan out of the PS, replace it with a LOT higher flow fan sicking air INTO the case through a filter.

Down side - most PSs limit you to 25mm thick 80mm fans, best I can get from that is about 50CFM. I'd LOVE to be able to replace some of those fans with Delta or Vantec/Sunon 80x38mm screamers.

On the other hand, the older K5 based machines don't need that much - they usually get hand-me-down fans from other upgrades as their original fans die....

Then there's the WierdStuffWarehouse 2u racks I have - with 4 80mm fans in the front, and enough depth to mount 38MM thick fans. I plan for those to eventually all house dualy boxes - probably Athlons, but if Xeon (especially MB) or Opteron or Athlon64 pricing goes down enough soon enough....
