Moo,
According to Anandtech/dailytech, AMD plans to reduce its single/dualcore processors further when Conroe launches 24 July. So I would hold off buying until early August. Some of the drops are up to about 50%. |

I'd love to spend my money on a Linux box, but are any of these worthwhile?
Better question: Does anyone know of a website where someone systematically collected benchmarks for different processors and different DC apps? |

I'd be looking towards performance in 64 bit mode, and supporting hardware virtualisation.
However, for some older comparisons www.swox.org/gmp ie the gmp maths library people did some benchmarking on different architectures. The gmpbench utility and results are downloadable from their site. http://www.swox.com/gmp/gmpbench.html They also wrote this paper http://swox.com/doc/x86-timing.pdf |
