Bad Factoring Assignment

Hello,

I just tried to make a little worktodo.ini file of my own to try some factoring between 80M and 100M just for fun.

I inputed the folliwing line :
Factor=80000023,0

(Factor because it has to do factoring, 80000023 is the exponent and I thought ,0 because it hasn't been factored yet, so until 0 bits)

BUT Prime95 gives me "Error : Bad factoring assignment"

I tried putting ,1 and even ,57 and ,58 just to see what would happen, but it keeps giving me "Bad factoring assignment".

Does anyone know what is wrong and why Prime95 doesn't accept it ?

Prime95 won't factor exponents above 79,300,000. Without studying the code I don't know how I the current trial factoring code could go.

I have been wondering what will happen when we do reach 79.3M in factoring. I assume that a new version will come out that can go above it, but what about the computers that do not upgrade. I know that it is far in the future but we probably thought that about 20.4M when v16 come out. Also can we expect the same thing to happen with LL that has happened with factoring when the LLs reach 20.4M. Sorry about the threadjack.

On one of the older versions I tried factoring exponents up in the 200,000,000 to 500,000,000 range...

I never had a problem with it in the 200-400m range, but any higher it always died...

Once it found a factor to 500,000,003 and then died... I even tried to submit it to PrimeNet...

So this brings up another interesting question: is there a program that would allow us to trial-factor past 79M? Or do we simply bug George Woltman until he increases the factoring maximum in the next version?
