Despite an appropriate-sounding family name, what I wrote is about as much as I actually understand the language
![]() Even with some assistance from Google, I'm not quite sure I understand what you're saying -- that FFTs have sizes, but those sizes are not measured in bytes, so I should express it as 3M, but not 3MB? If that's all, why didn't you say so?

Though James is usually spot-on, I'm afraid that this time you've spotted that he's inserted a "B" where there should not be one.

This may not exactly fit in this thread but I didn't want to start yet another thread for a minor topic.
My i5-750 is OC'd at 3.2 Ghz. It has been doing DC for all of 2012 so far. The per iteration timings in the 1344K FFT range have been a very consistent 20Ms on all 4 cores. Just recently it started a 1440K FFT on 1 core and 1344K FFT on the other 3 cores. The 1440K FFT timing went to 20.25Ms; about a 1.25% increase as expected. The timings on the 3 1344K FFT cores DROPPED to 19.8; 19.55 and 19.45; decreases of about 1%, 2.25% and 2.75%. Could I be correct in extrapolating from this that LL/DC performance is slightly better if you mix FFT sizes across the cores. |

Severe lack of Ivy Bridge + Linux in this thread. Its not a big improvement per-clock over Sandy Bridge, but you don't need exotic cooling either since the TDP is 20-30W less than equivalent Sandy Bridge!

It looks to me like you might get better results if you turn off hyperthreading (at least in prime95. Everything else will be more responsive to normal usage if it is on while prime95 is running).
2 threads on one physical core is slower than 1 thread in your benchmark. |
