Here's some overclocked Xenon 2.4 benchmarks. This is a dual Xenon board. Not much of an overclock, but it's completely stable!

Both in perfect stability.

What this shows is MHz is everything. Prime doesnt care less about memory speed or FSB speed.

I have a Nehemiah 1Ghz sitting around -- hadn't thought to bench on it yet, but I'll hook it up quickly tonight and run one. Results to follow in two hours or so...

Scratch that -- it was sold to me as a Nehemiah, but it is model 8, stepping 9, and so is an Ezra instead... So, here at least are the results from a Via C3 Ezra 1Ghz, with FSB of 100Mhz:

VIA C3 Ezra
CPU speed: 998.42 MHz
CPU features: RDTSC, MMX
L1 cache size: 64 KB
L2 cache size: 64 KB
L1 cache line size: 32 bytes
L2 cache line size: 32 bytes
TLBS: 128
Prime95 version 23.5, RdtscTiming=1
Best time for 384K FFT length: 275.948 ms.
Best time for 448K FFT length: 335.092 ms.
Best time for 512K FFT length: 366.761 ms.
Best time for 640K FFT length: 484.692 ms.
Best time for 768K FFT length: 580.810 ms.
Best time for 896K FFT length: 705.756 ms.
Best time for 1024K FFT length: 780.801 ms.
Best time for 1280K FFT length: 1028.811 ms.
Best time for 1536K FFT length: 1254.945 ms.
Best time for 1792K FFT length: 1540.442 ms.
Best time for 2048K FFT length: 1727.849 ms.

Which represents a better than linear speed up over the 800Mhz C3, but doesn't inspire me to get this box set up permanently

The on-board modem and soundcard fail to operate in safemode (no drivers loaded).
I am running 640MB on the machine.

Unhappy Pentium M (Centrino) Benchmarks

My Dell 8600 laptop CPU info is:

TYPE: Pentium M (centrino)
SPEED: 1.7 GHz
L2 Cache: 1024 KB
L2 speed: Full, same as CPU
Memory 333 MHz DDR SRAM (PC2700)
OS: Windows XP PRO

This is a laptop system and according to Intel is supposed to be equivalent in CPU power to a P4 2.6 GHz.

I also have a P4 2.6 GHz machine that is actually much faster then the P M 1.7 GHz

The P M 1.7 GHz has a 2048k benchmark of 206.587
The P 4 2.6 GHz has a 2048k of 81.721

So why is the P4 is much faster?? or the P M so much slower??
I have check the speedstep function and the CPU is running at the full 1.7 GHZ

Maybe the PRIME software is more optimized for the P4 than the P M.

Also, are there "CPU heat" concerns with running Prime on my Dell 8600 laptop?

Read this thread for more info concerning Pentium-M and Prime95.

The main reason is, that the FPU hasn't been improved a lot over P3s (surely due to power saving reasons) and even if it would have a thoughput like P4 or Athlon it would be limited by clockspeed. SSE2 has been implemented and the capability of parallel FMUL/FADD. The not so fast L2 cache is another reason.

I'm sure that heat won't become an issue with Pentium-M if the laptop has a good fan. At work the fan of a Dell laptop with P4-M became noisy after the machine was running at 100% CPU for several weeks. But I'm sure there are also companies which build quality notebooks...
