That was precisely what I was saying, and hence a big deal it
of out to make I wasn't.

I passed German "O level" in 1965, and am grateful for it, although
predictably the several agreeable German volk I have met speaky Englisch
besser than I Deutch do.
Soon after we started to learn the "word order" (age~12) my best friend
and I would in Englisch that order always speak.

Perhaps you've momentarily forgotten that FFT sizes are customarily measured by the number of floating-point "digits" rather than bytes. (That's why the mersenne-aries site lists "768K", not "768KB", for instance, as an FFT size.)

In Prime95, the FFT "digits" are each a double-precision FP number, spanning 8 bytes.

So, in GIMPS, an FFT of size "1024K" or "1M" occupies 8MB, not 1 MB, and a "3M" FFT occupies 24MB.

If some other FFT software were using single-precision FP for "digits", there a "1M" FFT would occupy 4MB and a "3M" FFT would span 12 MB. That shows why FFT sizes are not listed in MB or KB: because then one would have to also specify the size of each FFT "digit" in order to get a proper FFT picture.

4MB would contain 1M digits of single-precision FP, but only 512K digits of double-precision FP, or only 256K digits of quad-precision FP.

It still seems that small FFT's do not parallelize well in AVX.

(Someone else posted the same in the v27 thread.)
