OK, usually when surveys ask for you internet connection speed, they give you options like dial-up, ISDN, DSL, T1, LAN, etc. I'm going to try a different focus. I only care about the speeds of different dial-ups. If you have a faster than dial-up connection, then the vast majority of webpages load up in a couple seconds no matter how much faster you go, so to this poll all faster than dial-up are the same. And I figured this poll would dovetail with another thread Xyzzy has going.
I get 24kbps or 26.4kbps where I'm living now, but I guess that's one of the tradeoffs of living on a rural road. :( No DSL of course, so I would need a satellite connection to get any better. |

Perhaps a follow-up poll will be made if a lot of better than dial-up votes are cast.
Oh, and you should probably vote with your home connection speed, not work or school, unless you think that that would be appropriate. |

Apparently some areas of the country are a bit behind the times... The server that hosts this forum is real old, but it seems to do okay I guess... Here is a picture of it I just took...

I have no clue what that previous picture is, but I think the one below will be recognizable... (BTW, the guy in the chair is G. Woltman and the guy standing is S. Kurowski!) http://www.teamprimerib.com/jpg/pdp11.jpg |

Ah! The good ol' days. What am I talking about? Today is a great day since I've gone from PDP-11's, PDP-10's (all three flavors, KA, KI (a dualie in a master/slave configuration), and KL including a tri SMP configuration -- Yes Dilbet, SMP before anyone knew how to implement it correctly), to today: VAX and Alpha VMS. :) If you are into computer history check out http://simh.trailing-edge.com. It's the Computer History Simulation Project. btw - VMS clusters *rule* (Yes I am an ex-DECie and a VMS bigot. Get over it.) :D |

I knew it was a PDP-11 as soon as I saw the LINKtape drives - I learned programming on an 11/70.
I finally tossed my last tape for those drives a couple years back.... 9-) |
