The post office did tell us that it could take 6-8 weeks.
I really wonder why this has to take so long. DHL, EMS etc.. can do it in 1 day (EUR. to US, so maybe 2 days US to EUR because of the time difference) so why can't normal postal service do it in 1 week or so?

Most of the courier services have their own planes. I think the normal postal service pays for cargo space on commercial airlines and so might have to wait until there is extra room? Who knows, maybe it was sent via ship instead of by air?

The 6-8 weeks sound like surface mail instead of air mail. I remember having to wait about as long back in the days when I ordered Laser Discs in the US.

My poster hasn't arived yet (Denmark), but it should be here any day. As far as I can tell, it's been 7 weeks by now since they were shipped.

Has anybody else received their poster in Europe?

Ernst.

This reminds me of when I lived in the Netherlands, and my mother sent cookies via "surface mail". They were quite stale by time they arrived! Hopefully we won't have discovered any new Mersenne primes before the posters arrive...

I'VE GOT THE POSTERS !

I've received them just this afternoon.
With the magnifying glass of the grand-mother of my wife, I can read the numbers ! Unbelievable ! I'll put one of them in my office. I guess my colleagues will think I'm crazy to have such a grey poster.

I'm not sure the numbers of M44 will be readable ...
Why not write on the future poster of M44 the name of all contributors of the GIMPS ? plus the mathematical formulae dealing with the Mersenne numbers and with LLT ?

Thanks to Jeff, George, Michael and Perfectly Scientific !

Holy cow that is some big type!

Did the tube look okay or was they beat up? Were the posters physically fine?

While all the posters were here it was fun to compare the older ones with the new ones. At some point they are not going to be able to print these any more I suspect, because there has to be a limit to the printing process. Or maybe they'll use microfiche. I actually like the older ones more because at least you know it is a number if you look real close. The new one looks like a gray background. (I don't have a magnifying glass.)

I sure hope everyone else gets theirs soon.

The tube looked okay. But the posters seem to have received small shocks. One can see them only when close to the poster. (I missed the words to explain) So they are not as perfect as when they were produced, but it's fine. Probably putting some plastic paper with bubbles around the poster (like the one used for glasses) would help.

Yes. I agree. They probably will have to change the way they make the poster or to change the image.

Maybe they should offer them as wallpaper sets...

Maybe the delivery of the posters were delayed because the French government was trying to analyse all the numbers on the posters to see if it was secret communication from a "terrorist group" and it took them a while...

Glad they finally made it ok.
