Yes. That was something I tried and it made no difference.

Bug that caused memory problems on some systems.

Ha! I found it!

I even uninstalled this thing earlier, but apparently some vestiges of it stay on the system (I had a problem with this app and bit torrent crashing once) but updating to the newest version fixed my problem. This could be the cause of a lot of problems with prime95 erroring, I know a lot of people that run this.

Try

1)
a) putting in the PC3200 stick
b) setting bios to default/failsafe
c) running memtest

2)
a) putting in the PC2100 stick
b) as 1)b)
c) as 1)c)

Personally I'd not use the pc2100 stick because it might be incompatible and it slows down the other stick.

You'll find memtest here

Oh. I should have said. My problem was netlimiter. Uninstalling it didn't fix it (some parts stay) but updating to a new version that fixed that bug made it so I'm prime stable now.

Problem is gone!

Gah, scratch that. It still crashed eventually, just ran a damn sight longer. Sigh.

FYI: From the Manual:

Dual Channel (DC)
Data will be accessed in chunks of 128 bits from the memory
channels. Dual channel provides better system performance because
it doubles the data transfer rate.
Single Channel
• DIMMs are on the same channel.
• DIMMs in a channel can be identical or
completely different. However, we highly
recommend using identical DIMMs.
• Not all slots need to be populated.
Dual Channel
• DIMMs of the same memory configura-
tion are on different channels.

AMD64 processors and motherboards can be very picky about the RAM modules used (probably due to the integrated memory controller) - are the modules being used on the MB maker's tested/approved list?

Also, updating (and sometimes downgrading) the MB BIOS can resolve some memory issues.

It seems that the problem with netlimiter (causing it to crash immediately) was making it hard to tell that it was the Bh5 memory. It works great with 1 256mb DIMM or two in dual channel now. No problems with 9 hours Prime95.

Why will it do Prime95 from the linux install on the boot cd with the 512mb stick but not in windows? I'm totally confused on this.

Have you run memtest? Especially the 512Mb PC3200 stick?

It is available from the link I gave you; get an ISO and burn it as an ISO. Then boot the computer with it. Memtest also comes with many Linux disks, being runnable without installation.

Before you run it make sure the memory is set to autodetect in the BIOS.

It could be that Windows uses parts of dodgy chip that Linux doesn't...

Yeah, I've done 4 passes of memtest with the 512mb stick. It's on the same boot cd that has the prime program under linux:

This is what I get if it passes the first minute.
FWIW, if you had saved that image as a .gif or .png, the file size (and thus download time) would be a miniscule fraction of what it is, *and* it would be compressed losslessly.
