Default Automated sieve client

I had this idea on a sieve client.

Since the source code of the proth_sieve client is not public, very little progress has been made on a network sieve client.

I was wondering if we could write a client that can do the following.
1) Check if nextrange.txt is empty, if empty get new range and upload new factors to server, get a range from server and update the nextrange.txt file etc.
2) If nextrange.txt is not empty then the client should go to sleep, check in 10 min.

I do not know network programming but this does not seem very complicated to me atleast.

If we get such a program ready then we can be done with sieve:pick a range and all factors can go into DB directly, with the new server ready.

Any one have enough skill?

The other option is to write a wrapper class for proth_sieve, which is complicated.

There is Sobistrator.
And if we make a client as you describe it, work assined would come in smaller chunks, I suppose, making it more difficult to verify if a range has been done until the end and correctly. I'm feeling like it is not too much work going get a range every week or month.

Ok, so I have found tools on the web to do what I want to do.

All I need to do is create a bat file now.

Other than that I need access to a server, where I can upload factors and dl new ranges from etc. (basically ftp access)
Any ideas on what servers I may use? Any free ones out there?

FTP access is available for windows XP pro with the IIS service that is delivered as part of the OS.
Look in control panel/"add or remove programs"/"Add/remove windows components"

I have not tried it myself.

On linux it only depends which distribution you have.
