What cpu would be the best for prime95. Intel or AMD. Does they high clock speed of Intel cpus' really make a difference, or does the get more done at lower clock speed AMD's work better. I'm going to be building some computers just to run prime95 on (i know generous
). I'm a hard core AMD fan, and would be building them with Opteron 165's. They'd also be overclocked to around 2.4Ghz. Does prime95 favor intel over Amd, or vis versa? Thanks

Prime95 favors intel. The best chip for a "prime farm" is the older northwood Pentium 4 (the one with 512Kb of L2 cashe), but it hasn't been available for about a year. The current Pentium 4's do well too, but are a little worse than northwood.
In the bang for the buck category, the Celeron D is unbeatable. http://www.mersenneforum.org/showthread.php?t=3208 |
