Well, considering the information that Mathworld has on Mersenne Primes and Lucas Lehmer tests, I would say that that is an overstatement.

If I have managed to be right more often than wrong, it's because I generally avoid posting about things that I don't know very well... I'm just a undergraduate, after all...

To get back to the original subject of the future of GIMPS if George gets ill, or bored from seeing people asking "why can't I run the same LL test from the beginning in a computer and from the end in another??" and decides to leave the project.

In the future I think it would be preferable to have a not-for-profit organization with an elected board, like ekugimps has suggested. jinydu's suggestion that George appoints a successor wouldn't be completely disregarded, since I think there wouldn't be much arguing and disagreeing about that point.

I don't know...

George IS GIMPS itself. No one would give GIMPS the same essence of life, nor would bother housekeeping it the way he does.
