Today was the awards banquet for the MMPC (Michigan Mathematics Prize Competiton). Before the actual banquet, they have 2 speakers give math lectures. Kenneth Rosen from AT&T (Bell) Labs did a presentation on discrete mathematics, and half of it was just on Mersenne primes. GIMPS was specifically mentioned and suggested to everyone there. It was nice to see GIMPS get some publicity, especially to younger people. The only downside was that I already knew all the math behind GIMPS, so I didn't learn anything for that part.
