Except that he is only doing it to 2^59 which conceivable makes it atleast 2^13 times faster.

For now, i'm only testing numbers that are factored to 2^58, and bring them to the 2^59 level. I might bring them to 2^60 later, or do the 2^59 level for some lower numbers.
Another question. Do you guys also plan to bring numbers below 2M to a higher level? |

Factoring these numbers is getting time consuming, and a lot of these numbers (especially the lower ones) have already had a lot of ECM or P-1.
For GIMPS it doesn't really matter if these numbers are factored or not, since they are already tested composite at least twice. If you want to factor these numbers, there are probably more efficient ways then trial factoring. |

What are you talking about?
79M - 79.3M is the end of the range. (79 300 000) Are you doing 7.9m (7 900 000)? If so, then yes, these have been done. you should do 79M this range is very little time consuming it is very fast at 2^58 one or two minutes per number. Please let us know. |

Yes i am factoring 79M - 79.3M. It takes about a minute per number to factor from 2^58 to 2^59 and about 2500 numbers (IIRC) to be done in this range. But like i said, it's at low priority for me. The pc isn't on 24/7 and i might use the cpu for other things. Guess it will be done by the end of the week.
The 2M question had nothing to do with my reservation. I was just wondering if some people are planning to bring that range to the next bit level |

I know there is someone working down in that range because nofactor.cmp shows exponents there are being updated.
Getting all exponents to 58 bits is going to be a long time out there because there are many exponents that are assigned in PrimeNet that are only done to 57. It will be a very long time before they are all done. |
