First of all, I would suggest Mlucas instead of Glucas. Glucas hasn't been updated in a while. BTW, what is the file name/extension?

Download Mlucas from ftp://hogranch.com/pub/mayer/bin/Mlu...erPCBinary.tgz. Use Stuffit Expander (from Alladin) to get the binary. Another option is to use "tar -x" from the Terminal application. In any case, you will need the Terminal application to run it. To execute you will need to append a "./" in front of the program name since the directory you are running out of is most likely not in the PATH. Use "./Mlucas -s m" to do a selftest.
If you are still having problems, I will need more specifics on what you are doing and the errors you are getting. |

Another option for the OSX desktop is to use
Mersennator which can be found at http://www.thomas.perrier.name/Mersennator/ |

Thanks to Mark Rodenkirch and Tom Cage, we have improved Mlucas binaries for Apple PowerPC (separate ones for the G4 and G5), built using the IBM XL C compiler. This gives 15-20% better performance at most runlengths than the old gcc build. These binaries used the 10/21 source tarball.
There are also new AMD64 and PA-RISC binaries which are generally a bit faster than the old ones, but that is due to some additional non-power-of-2 radices in the 10/21 sources, rather than any new compilers, as for the PowerPC. In all of these cases, you should be able to download the new binaries and restart your LL runs from any existing savefiles - please let me know if you have any problems along these lines. http://hogranch.com/pub/mayer/README.html has more details. |

How does MLucas compare to GLucas on a time per cycle basis using OSX?
Are there any benchmarks available..... |

0) Make sure there are no other CPU-intensive processes running on your system; 1) Download/unzip the appropriate Mlucas binary and run the self-tests using 'Mlucas -s m' (or 'Mlucas -s a' if you want to do a really big set of self-tests; -m should be a wide enough range of trial FFT lengths for GIMPS first-time-exponent testers and DCers); 2) In the same working directory as the Mlucas binary and the mlucas.cfg file created by the self-tests, create a worktodo.ini file containing an exponent you've run (or are running) using glucas; 3) After letting that run for (say) a half-hour, examine the p{exponent}.stat file Mlucas writes 2000-iteration checkpoint timings and Res64's to. Convert the time written in the last (or a seemingly 'representative') one of the output lines from hh:mm:ss.sss to seconds and divide by 2000 to get a per-iteration time. Compare that to what you got using glucas. Note that Mlucas will generally gain 5-15% speed (depending on the platform) after the first 200000K iterations, assuming it decides it is safe to turn off every-iteration roundoff error checking for the exponent in question (which is almost always the case).
