Hi,
I've just installed "Prime95" and it says its.. "This test will take about an hour Test 1, 2500 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M29311553 using 1536K FFT length Test 2, 2500 Lucas-Lehmer iterations of M28811551 using 1536K FFT length" Whats all this about? (Been going 5-10 minutes) Once all thats done does that mean my Computer ID will be changed? (I selected a new one) |

It is a test of your system to see if it stable. Since Prime95 places high demands on the system it runs some trials to test it before getting down to the actual work of testing numbers. If your system is unable to handle the load this test should catch it. Quote:
The fact that it is only a month is due to special properties of these numbers and some neat math short cuts and really fast programs. The Compuiter ID that you are refering to is confusing. The Computer ID that Prime95 is not the same as the one that Windows is using, they are totally unrelated. Last fiddled with by Uncwilly on 2004-10-06 at 16:55 |

If you want to do something that takes less time per test than 1 month, you can select factoring.
To do that, under the Test menu select PrimeNet then uncheck Request whatever type of work makes the most sense then uncheck Request Mersenne number to run primality tests and check Request Mersenne number to factor. |

PrimeNet is the system used to coordinate all the testing.
It hands out the assignments and collects the results, etc. |

Going to kill the cat
frist if you were to do these tests it fully it would take one month but for testing perposes you will stop after the frist 60 minutes and then if you selected to use primenet it will connect to the net and download the tests you need to do factoring takes about 24 hours on a 2.7 celeron and ll takes a few weeks on any comp next primenet is a network used for the sending and retrieveing of work results data and other parts of the project your computer talks to prime net Computer says hi Primenet says hello Computer says i have noting to do can u give me some work Primenet says yes i can ****DATA**** computer will check in with the netwrok to tell it that its there and chugging along. |
