Ok what gives. In windows xp with or without sp2 it fails within 1-3 minutes. This is the first intel system I have built since the first athlon however computer is computer so building them is pretty similar. My config.
soyo SY-P4I865PE plus Dragon 2 v1.0. Corsair value 1 g (2x512). CPU is intel 2.8cGhz. Video card is BFG ms4000 64mb. cd-rw lite on. Ran Prime95 from suse and redhat and not a single glitch even when running background services. Run it in windows xp 1-4 minutes get error and boots me out. Runs in windows when run small ffts. What I have done to attempt to fix this. Swapped memory with hyper x kingston, swapped power supply with known good Antec truepwr 480 reseated all system components 10+times, Placed non-conductive tape over contact with motherboard posts on bottem of system board, reloaded operating systems numberous times, Relaxed timing on ddr to 3cl when it is approved and ran in an athlon system at 2.5 with prime95 runnning for 4 days, updated bios on system board, tested ddr and video in separate machine no problems, Turned on and off hyperthreading,///Nothing I have done has changed a thing. Still works great in linux no go in windows. Thanks all |

It doesn't run on redhat or windows. It only can run on SUSE 9.1. I checked my previous report and I was not running the same test. When I run torture test option 17 it fails on redhat and windows however it works on suse 9.1? It tried running it minimized and results are the same.
Any ideas? |

When I run the program from Fedora in Text mode it runs without glitchs too. It does point at video drivers at this point. Should I still attempt to correct this?

Do you have an old PCI video card you can test with?

Since you have 1024MB ram, perhaps the first thing I should have suggested checking is that Prime95 is not trying to allocate too much memory for the torture test. Run a custom test with only half the memory allocated to check this. It shouldn't normally be a problem in Linux, but if you do not have a swap partition mounted and are running a very fat window manager then it could happen there too.
Is Prime95 giving an error message, or is it just crashing? If the problem is with the video drivers then until the manufacturer fixes the driver, you may have an option of using a generic driver instead. I don't know enough about Windows or your particular hardware to advise how to do this. You might get a clue by looking in the SuSE X-server log and see which driver it is loading. |

ok hardware mx4000 64mb BFG video card. I ran memtest from the fedora bootdisk and it comes up with numerous errors. I believe now memory is the issue. I will try to limit the memory amount used by linux and see if that works. However at this point I think it is my system board is picky about memory.
