NT 4 SP 6 or SP6a, or NT 3.51 SP5 will manage months of uptime sometimes, on a system that isn't doing more than a couple things at a time.
On the other hand, I've never had OS-related downtime on any of my LINUX boxen - hardware failures, extended power failures, hardware upgrades, and a couple of ID-10-T errors on the part of the owner, like when I accidentally deleted the entire /lib directory on my firewall/NAT box - and it kept running for 2 months after before I got around to fixing that. It *ran*, just couldn't launch any *new* applications.... |

George, are you doing anything particularly unusual for cooling? That may be whats needed, on a hunch.

I can't run prime95 for more than a minute let alone 24 hours.
Using my P4T533 with 2x 256 232pin 4200 Rimms on winXP just about ready to throw the hole thing in the skip :( |

Don't give up Diggs, you just need to find the offending part and return it. Since you are dying quickly, it isn't heat related. Most likely it is bad RIMMS or inadequate power supply. Have you tried underclocking? Can you set just the ram to run at a slower speed? Have you run any programs that look at your voltages when prime95 is running?

From what I heard there could be some problems with some RIMM and some of the older P4T533. I would try to update the bios as I believe the newer bios solves some of the incompatibility issues with some of the RIMMs.

thanks for your help guys, but this is the story of all my heartache.
I've had the Rimms replaced 4 times, the PSU & CPU once, and just last week the motherboard too. All with very similar problems. fails memtest 86 at every turn prime95 & 3DMark also. Can anyone give me an underclocking guide.. I haven't got a clue in this area :? And is the following PSU suitable for my setup? Enhance ENS-0246 / 460 Watt Power Supply [AC input: ¤ 115-230 Volts, ¤ 10/5A, 60/50Hz, with Power Factor Correction and outstanding DC output as follows: ¤ +3.3V @ 40A ¤ +5V @ 45A ¤ +12V @ 28A ¤ - 5.0V @ 1A ¤ - 12V @ 1A ¤ + 5Vsb @ 2A] cheers again, Diggs |

There is a ***HUGE*** thread over in the Hardocp forums about this particular board... Maybe that might have some help?

Hi Diggs! As I told you, I've a MoBo like your with a 2.4B Ghz cpu. BIOS rev. is 1005 and OS is winXP. Your system is surely better than mine (that should be a good piece of news), since this PC is quite simple and not very well balanced: it is equipped with extremely poor both audio (SB) & video (S3 Savage) cards. Using an old 350W Chieftec psu and stock rimms (1X256, Samsung), it runs "prime95-solid" till to 2.8 Ghz (Vapochilled).
