TF on an iMac?

I tried doing a search for keywords factoring and mac, but the word mac wouldn't go through.

I am wondering if I can do TF on this mac. It's an iMac, but I don't know what OS it has on it, nor do I know how to find that out. It is really slow, so there is no way I would be able to do LL tests on it.

HELP!!

Do you have a C compiler?

I can send you source code for my NFS implementation. You could help
out with sieving for 2^667 + 1 and 2^689+1. (or other numbers).
I would provide the input data.

If you want to do LL tests, get GLucas or MLucas. You should be able to find binaries for them or you should be able to make your own. iMacs could be used for TF, but they would be terribly slow. GLucas and MLucas are also slower on PPC than Prime95 on PCs of the same speed.

Another option would be ECMNet. The client can be compiled on many architectures. I have a G4 (and a new G5 coming soon) that I have been using with ECMNet for years.

Bob's suggestion of NFSNET is good as well. He has a project running and there is another project at http://www.nfsnet.org that has Mac binaries available.

BTW, if you are using OS 9, then you are going to have problems compiling source for any project. If it is a G4 or G5 iMac, you will have little (or no) problem installing OS X and its developer tools. OS X is supported on some G3 iMacs and not on others, but you should be able to install it on any iMac with a little help. Unfortunatetly I don't know of any sites off the top of my head, but you can definitely google for some.
