Compatible Motherboard search - Xeon W3670

I have a W3670 sitting here and was looking for a cheap motherboard that would run it. I'd like a dual socket, if not too much more expensive. But, all the LGA1366 motherboards I've found list only CPUs of different series than this one. Is there a source that can suggest boards based on CPUs? I already have a 1366 motherboard that doesn't support this chip - that's why I have the chip. It was supposed to support a Xeon chip, but apparently not one with 6 cores.

Newegg seems to have some refurbs for sale, but because this chip is from 2010 it might get tricky to properly match.

Well, I picked out a SuperMicro board based on the link of compatibles and no joy. I tried CPU1, CPU2 and both CPU1 and CPU2 and the W3670 CPUs would not let the board initialize at all. I tried two X5650 CPUs and all seems well (other than a poor performing cooler on CPU2).

But I do thank you for the link. I might try something else as well.

It's important to go to the manufacturer's web site and pull up the list of supported CPUs for your particular motherboard. Not only can you find if it is supported, but you can also check the minimum BIOS version that supports it. You might find that all your motherboard needs is a BIOS update.

This is a good point and I found the user guide for the motherboard, but not the latest BIOS date. I'll have to dig further. At least the machine is providing some factoring now, as one of my more capable machines with the X5650s. (Probably a sad note that one of my better machines is running X5650s.) I suppose, maybe I should try to see which CPU is the better. . .
