Okay... going off-topic, but this raises a mystery. My v4 and v5 results give a total of 1054 LL results:
Code:
                v4 v5
verified 683 260
unverified 15 82
bad 4 2
factored 8
total 710 344
But the User Summary page shows 748 LL and 252 LL-D. Thoughts?

No thoughts on statistical discrepancies tonight......

But my large transistor drive just pulsed the brake chopper at 2250A or so, and when it turned off in 2/3 of a microsecond, the voltage overshoot was only 250V!!!! (we also got less current on the second 500us shot, as the hunk of nichrome used for a resistor was getting warm)

(This system is designed like a circuit card, but the traces are 3/8" silver-flashed copper plate)

Now we just have to find out if the CFD model of heat removal through the heatpipes is valid....the fans sound like jet engines....

You're helping GIMPS reach a milestone. George must be enhancing the credit for the preferred exponents...

Incidentally, do you now have that much GIMPS credit lifetime?! You're like the Bill Gates of GIMPS!

We have never ridden a motorcycle before, but we figured that should not be a deterrent from trying, so we snagged a cute red one today. We spent the afternoon riding in a large parking lot across the street. So far we can shift to second gear and take off from a stop without stalling it. Anything over 3,000RPM is too scary for now, but riding like an old grandma is still a lot of fun!

Unbelievable but true: There is no mandatory helmet law in Arkansas!

These days, in VA, I think we have mandatory motorcycle training classes....two days in a large, empty parking lot at a local high school on state-owned bikes doing various exercises....

Wow, that's a mean machine for a newbie! No disrespect, but please be damned careful on that thing. It's not what I would have recommended as a first bike.

There's a technical term for a motorcyclist who doesn't wear a helmet. It's "corpse". I strongly recommend also wearing leather gauntlets and proper leather motorbike boots whenever you ride a bike, and never ride bare-armed and/or bare-legged no matter how hot the weather. It's amazing how much skin you lose, and how easily it wears off, when (not if) you go sliding down the road.

I speak from experience. I've been riding bikes since 1974, currently ride a 1100cc Honda Pan-European and have never had a worse injury than a cracked bone in my wrist (falling off at 5mph!) or a few inconsequential grazes.

Assuming you survive the first couple of years (I'm serious), you should get a lot of fun out of biking.

Oh yes, one other thing to remember: paranoia is a survival characteristic for bikers. You can be pretty near certain that motorists are out to get you. The first couple of years I mentioned is roughly how long it takes to learn how to be somewhere else when the accidents happen.

Good luck!

Paul

I thoroughly endorse the above advice!

My sheepskin-lined leather boots were about the most
comfortable footwear I have owned.

I could list many disappointments you may experience
once the initial thrill wears off:

MPG, forced convection and "pneumatic drill syndrome" to name but 3.
