Some time ago, some threads (the largest of which was the Word Association thread) were deleted, causing some users to lose huge numbers of posts. Believe it or not, I used to have over 2000 posts.

Just a suggestion Ernst.
Unless they were utter non sense, and not in the general interest of the majority, and if not related to mathematics in any way, couldn't we have somehow stored the posts in the Archives?
I am not conversant with storage in computers and really cant give any advice on this aspect.
However I find that many posters use up far too much space by leaving huge gaps from sentence to sentence and para to para. Even when they sign their names they should try to save space.
I also find that when they quote from each other the space left is far too much. If we could make people conserve space, if, that is THE problem I think a lot could be done in this matter.

Thumbs up Spammers

Ernst You and Mike are completely justified in taking the action that you have decided upon. I still feel that there are still some thread headings which we could all do without as they cater for a very small cross section of our members. Please dont ask me which ones lest I put my head on the block.
A good criterion would be to check the number of posts and the number of posters on that particular topic who repeatedly add on to the thread. If it falls short of a limiting predetermined number then that particular thread should be discontinued.
Moreover I find that there are habitual posters who deliberately divert the thread from the main topic. In this case the poster should be issued a warning from the moderator up to say 3 times in that thread after which his posts should be blocked.
I leave it up to you to decide. and best of luck
Mally

Imho, I think this forum is quite clean in comparison to other ones (in fact the vast majority), where jou have pages of single emoticon or one word reply, very, very large annoying animated gif signature and a lot of junk, being unable to find any answer without browsing dozen of pages...

So I'd just keep mersenneforum as it is...
Philippe.

I just finished another number and got a screenshot of it just after it finished. Too bad it wasn't a screenshot saying it was prime!

That must have been an up hill climb all the way!
How many years left to graduate? And how many more for the Masters and PhD? Have you taken up Physics or Maths for the principal subject?
My advice is to stick to your moral principles which are ingrained in each one of us and you cant go wrong.
You have come a long way since we discussed your conjecture on power polynomials.
Wish you all the best in life and I am always your well wisher

Thank you for your support, mfgoode.

I have at least two more years left before I graduate (depending on whether or not I decide to take a second major). My major is math.
