Thanks for the update, Uncwilly! Good illustration of what is called "volatility." In the wake of the Admin announcing it will urge Congress to create a trillion dollars out of thin air, and hand it out to all and sundry, the DJIA rose over a thousand points today.

I enjoyed watching yesterday's oh-so-predictable last-few-minutes ramp-into-the-close job. They didn’t manage to push the DJIA back above 20,000, but down a ‘mere’ 1300 points (6%) still looks much better than the -2,300 intraday low. Today, with the ECB announcing a huge financial-sector-aiding "bazooka" and the US senate staying in session to ram through a $Trillion-dollar stimulus bill (which at least is heavily weighted toward direct payments to hoi polloi, over the objections and "means testing" proposals by - get this - the Dems, echoing the "Dems have moved so far right they're now being outflanked on the left by the Rs" post I made a couple days ago in the Soap Box 'Electile Dysfunction' thread) they squeaked it back above 20,000. But none of these short-term index manipulations will be able to stave off what’s coming.

In which case, how bad it would be would depend on its duration. Any predictions?
