Default Can't run Prime95 on a Mac

Hi!
When I try to run Prime 95 on a Mac I get this message: "The application “Prime95” can’t be opened." I tried allowing apps downloaded from anywhere in "Security and Privacy" but still get the same message. I tried versions 29.8b6 and 27.9 with the same result. I searched the web but didn't find any information about it. The machine is a 2017 iMac running MacOS 10.15.2. How can I get Prime95 to run?

I get this error message:

dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/lib/libhwloc.15.dylib
Referenced from: /Applications/mprime
Reason: image not found
Abort trap: 6

I tried allowing unsigned apps but the result was the same.

Sorry I cannot work on this until March.

You can try building hwloc library from the sources here: https://www.open-mpi.org/software/hwloc/v2.0/

Configure hwloc with --enable-shared --disable-pci --disable-cuda --disable-gl --disable-opencl

You could also try ftp://mersenne.org/gimps/p95v298b7.MacOSX.zip.zip (yes, I crapped on building it there are two .zip extensions)

That didn't work either. I downloaded v.27.9 from ftp and was able to run that after going into Terminal and changing the permissions or flags. That was information I came across by accident. Maybe it can be added to the readme? The command was "chmod a+x ./Prime95.app/Contents/MacOS/Prime95" I don't remember if I also had to allow running unsigned apps but maybe that could be added to the manual as well?

I may have to discontinue the Mac GUI version. I cannot upgrade to Catalina as it will not run 32-bit apps and there are several I use on my laptop.

My 6 year-old laptop won't last forever and I'm not sure that an Apple product will be its replacement.

Glad you figured out something that works. Sorry for the trouble.

As soon as I did that, the app launched with only a standard gatekeeper warning ("are you sure you want to open this?").

@Prime95, are you opposed to buying an Apple Developer ID for $99/year and contacting the developer support team? I'm sure they could give you some advice as to how to continue maintaining the GUI version on the Mac.

I've uploaded version 29.8 build 7 for Mac OS X, both GUI and comman-line versions. If I did not screw things up, this version staticly links in the hwloc and GMP libraries which should reduce the number of problems getting this to work, especially on Catalina.

If you run into Apple blocking running the app, see https://www.webnots.com/how-to-open-...tware-warning/ for ideas to get around the problem.

I'm a Mac Software Engineer. (Well, I've worked as Mac Software Engineer in the past, including 2 years at Apple. Although I haven't been working on Mac software the last 3 years.) If there is a desire for help improving the Mac client, I'd be willing to contribute some time to help do so. Especially, if there are specific know bugs to be addressed / improved. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer. Have you tried the latest version on Catalina? If it does not work, can you tell us why? If it does work are there any suggstions you could offer to improve the user experience?

Finally, is there a better way to package this for easy install?
