Have you thought about using an HVAC filter to trap a lot of the dust? You can get them in all sorts of sizes and different densities.

Not really a good option for my apartment. Like I said running case-open is a must for me, both from an airflow and easy-access-to-the-hardware perspective. I have located the box in a relatively low-dust part of my apartment, I just accept that the huge air volumes associated with running 24/7 are going to lead to dust accumulation. Now that I've tested out the dry-fire-extinguisher method, a quick monthly blowout will be easy to do. The Radeon is smartly designed there - air intakes on bottom of card, i.e. let gravity help keep dust out.

If you have a case that you pull a single side off, you can get the cheap filters that will catch more than half the dust with minor drag that should cover the hole with little overhang.
https://www.homedepot.com/p/EZ-Flow-...1218/203143672 Note that the listing is for a case and 12x18, but all sorts of sizes are available.

Interesting - I'll have a look at furnace air filters next time I'm at a hardware store. Thx for the link!

A beneficial side-effect of efficiently collecting dust on the fan blades and cooler fins is that it removes said dust from the room air, acting as a particulate air filter :) ("better keep the dust on the fan than in the lungs") -- this could easily become another selling-point of GPGPU, in addition to heating up the house in winter :)

This is the best suggestion I have heard in a long time. My main computer is in a large InWin case which has the air intake at the bottom, covered by a metal screen with small perforations in a frame 9" X 12". This frame magnetically attaches to the computer and the small holes accumulate a lot of dust.

I will get a 12" X 20" HEPA pleated filter (saw them at Lowes today) and cut it down to fit. This should catch a lot more dirt.
