Except for the London Underground escalators where they tell you to stand to the right while other pass on the left.

Haha, in HK on most escalators, you have to stay on the left (your left) so the people who are in hurry can overtake you (actually, very few people "stay" on escalators there, everybody is busy and in hurry, so if you effectively stay on escalators, they will look strange to you, and if you stay on the right side, they will physically push you away of their path - colleagues tell me that the things changed a bit recently, but at my time there, it was like that).
