Google fail to answer: How to install LLR and PFGW to Ubuntu ?
Linux is not my area either. I put together one 6 core PC. It is up and running with ubuntu 19.#. Waiting for programs to be installed and crunching away. I am rather confused about this ( ./config, make, apt-get or maybe I just need a shell script to run the programs) Any good advice here to installing f.x. these two programs? I did not find much info here about this matter. I can always start with Linux for Dummy's but I am hoping for some shortcuts before this old pc get much older. |

Do you have the programs downloaded?
I don't compile llr for Ubuntu; I just run the binary from Jean's site. Download the software from http://jpenne.free.fr/index2.html, I choose "64 bit static link". Unzip, right-click on sllr64 and select 'properties', then 'permissions'. You'll find a check-box to allow executing file as program. Select it. Then, open a terminal window (ctrl-alt-t is the keyboard shortcut to do so). cd into the directory where sllr64 lives, and type "./sllr64 -m". The ./ means "run from this current directory", while -m means "open the menu for llr". From there, you have the list of options similar to P95. |

I have Ubuntu 19 all set up on a hard drive I used in my i5 stored in a box. The Windows console version of LLR has always been sluggish on that machine. The switch-back only requires removing the current drive and putting the Ubuntu drive back in. I found both "static" and "dynamic" builds of LLR for Linux over a month ago. I downloaded both. I understand the meaning of the two words, but not so much in this context. Not having the same name, I could try both and see which runs better.

Running. There is virtually no difference in the throughput of static vs. dynamic. However, the performance is significantly better than with Windows. At the current k and n, Windows was taking close to 150 seconds for each test. Linux is taking 106. The switchover was worth the effort.
