The Republicans were turned back once, but I would not be surprised if a higher court overturns this.

On the one hand SCOTUS has said that it won't interfere in elections as the state's own election rules should take precedence, but on the other hand Kavanaugh and others have made it clear that it is there prerogative to overrule the people of the voters of the states, especially if Republicans control the state legislature of those states.

I voted for the candidate and party that is not suppressing voters or votes and is not intimidating voters. I would like to know if ACB would call this intimidation. I'm sure she is okay with the militants outside polling locations.

SCOTUS has already ruled that "as long as you don't explicitly mention a race in the rules or laws that govern voting", it won't step in to address voter suppression. We can all thank Justice Roberts for that. I fully expect the Voting Rights Act of 1965 to be removed from the books by end of 2021 regardless of who is elected.

A screen. In 2016, I was given printed pages which a person had to clearly mark. Those were given to someone who ran them through a scanner of come type which sat atop a shredder. I later wondered about items not clearly marked being counted as they should have been. Hopefully, that system has been done away with. I will find out tomorrow when I go to my designated polling place, the local VFW.

Many years ago, I read an anecdote about old-style voter suppression by "literacy test."

A Black man tried to register to vote in the upcoming election. The official produced a Chinese-language newspaper, and asked the applicant if he could read it.

The applicant said, "Well, I can make out the headline, but I can't read the story."

The official was astounded. "You can read that headline? What's it say?"

The applicant replied, "Here's one nr who ain't votin' in this election."

This "joke" is something I heard from my older brother's friend when I was in Jr High. It has stuck with me.

That sounds like a really bad idea.

So, I guess no?!

BTW, what is the advantage of registering your party affiliation? Being able to participate in primaries?

The question shouldn't even be asked. It is rife for abuse.

Ah, so I see here, Mr. Xyzzy, that you are registered as independent, which means you aren't one of us ... yet. Please listen to me for the next 20 minutes while I tell you how wonderful our party is.

ETA: What I meant with my query was is one forced to indicate a choice about who they affiliate with. And, yes, saying no affiliation is indicating a choice.

No, you are not required to register for a political party. The whole idea of that to me is disgusting.

There is - or at least used to be - that advantage. This time around, the R's largely dispensed with primaries, at least for the presidential election, to remove any chance of the incumbent getting turfed out.

When William Jennings Bryan ran against William McKinley (1896 and 1900), the story is told that employers coerced their workers to vote for McKinley by threatening to fire them if they voted for Bryan. They had separate voting booths for D's and R's at the workplace, and watched which booth their workers went to. Some employers also said they would close up shop if the Democrats won.

So who is that registered with? I assumed from the context that it was as part of the voter registration process. But the answers above would indicate that it is something else.
