When I saw the moderation list. There were 3 new threads attempted to be posted by the OP. 1 was way OT and 1 was inane, I deleted those 2. This one was the only one that seemed like we could be of help. So I approved it. I was fairly tied-up IRL the past couple of days.

No, that's not correct, it might be approaching all posts, including this one.

As far as I know they did not get banned for the 2 posts that I deleted. The 2 posts looked just innocuous enough to be a spammers attempt to get their posts approved before bringing on the

One about cooling hardware in SE Asia during the summer is something discussed in this group.

But these can be specifically designed to do exactly that - to get the initial screening, before wholesale spamming on the next day. Their reason is not to "get the answer for this burning question", only to get the foot in the door.

The postings that satisfy this criteria are some legitimate posts from some other boards, -- and sometimes even from this one, just, say, from 10 years from the past. No one has time to re-google the message to find if it was a copy-cat message or a real one. So, yes, sometimes spammers pass.
