Hmm, I think I've tried that but let me check.

@Microprint314... You might consider firing your current on-line presence staff. Showing only a blank page for those who are serious about security is ill-advised. Or, at least, you won't get many orders from them.

There is something known in the industry as "gracefully collapse". It is fine to add bells-and-whistles if JS is enabled, but a site should at least still display something useful and informative if it isn't.

FWTW.
I'll check my international settings on Amazon regarding Barbados.

Doesn't my Amazon listing address the problem of at least being able to view the product without JS enabled? (personally I haven't tried that, but the consensus seems to be that without JS, my Amazon product listing is viewable and my site is not)

If I had a staff, I'd fire them. I use a hosted ecomm platform as do millions of small businesses. So unless I want to switch platforms, I'm subject to the good and the bad of how that platform works. If I could add some noscript tags, I would since I agree with you about graceful collapse.

Off the cuff, and likely a subject for a different thread and forum...and site. Isn't there a way to run JS in a virtual machine so you're still protected? (not sure) A VM's access to your computer and the outside world can be controlled, at least to a degree.

That is correct. Amazon "fails gracefully". Your site doesn't.

Fire them. Switch platforms, and find a ecomm provider which works.

Sure. But it is a bit much to ask a customer to access your site by way of a VM for their protection.

No disrespect intended, but get your own together before you ask your customers to do so.

I wasn't suggesting the VM so you'd buy anything. From a seller/customer perspective, I would just point you to the Amazon link as long as I ship to your country. The VM idea was just a suggestion for being able to use a JS-enabled browser - in general. Not sure why you're being hostile.

It was not meaning to be hostile. I'm not quite clear how that could be interpreted as hostile.

Last fiddled with by chalsall on 2019-05-09 at 19:19 Reason: s/be interpreted/be interpreted as hostile/;

Then it was my misinterpretation. Apologies.

No problem.

The wonderful thing about this forum is everything is open for deep debate.

It's a bit like a game of Rugby, where you try to mame your opponent on the field, and then you go and buy each other beers and laugh about it afterward.

Or the game of Go, where it's all fun and games until someone loses an eye.

I've added Barbados to the countries I ship to on Amazon. If you try it out and have a problem, let me know.

I think you meant gracefully degrade, and avoid collapse or a screeching halt.
https://webtips.dan.info/graceful.html
Where I used to work, a major R&D university that received gigadollars annually in government funding, a nonnegotiable condition of said funds was that all web pages in the university's IP or DNS domains met certain standards for usability across a variety of possible disabilities the viewer/listener might have. That included any of the forms of colorblindness, and also alt text for a browser to display if an image failed to load, or a screen reader to pick up for the completely blind or completely deaf if there was sound on a video. Tablets and smartphones added to the fun, since the potential screen real estate could be tiny, and page visual testing needed to be done at a wider range of widths.

Please don't tell me what I meant.

It's a bit like telling me what I know.
