I'm seriously dyslexic. I can't smell ( ) to save my life.I actually almost dropped out of high-school because of this, but thankfully an English teacher recognized my handicap (before this condition was generally understood; my mother and my older sister were simply labelled as stupid), and encouraged me to "just write; don't worry about the spelling. I got diagnosed when I was about 5. I got intense help. But still years later can still break spellcheck. Took a spelling course in college that was aimed at ESL students.
And just so people know, it is more than visual, it is auditory as well. (Not reversal, but the breaking up of words and sounds into words. That is why dyslexics have a hard time counting syllables and often can't sound out a word. I have been physically beaten for not being able to sound out a single syllable word.) When life hands you melons..... Last fiddled with by Uncwilly on 2019-03-26 at 16:29 Reason: title |

I have a huge problem parsing the spoken word. It drives me nuts when during a meeting people talk over each other, or even if there is background music. Whenever I chair a meeting I implement something I call "the talking cat" (it's a blatant rip-off of the Indigenous People's tradition of "the talking stick"). It's a small cat statue my girlfriend gave me years ago. Only the person holding the cat is allowed to speak. It's a bit surprising how much this helps move a meeting forward. Another thing I insist upon is all electronic devices are set to silent. I truly don't understand how people are able to focus on the task at hand when their smart phones and lap-tops audibly "ping" them several times a minute, informing them someone posted something on FB or WA! Thanks for wasting the group's time with your need to know what all your friends are doing in real-time.... |

Company provided laptops should be designed for an open-plan office by *not* having loudspeakers at all, just a headphone socket and a provided set of headphones. I got fed up with laptops beeping away at nearby desks.
But that assumes the designers and managers who choose them have actually used laptops in a typical work environment. Chris |

But not wrong. You seem to prioritise being wrapped in bubble wrap first and being part of an engaging discussion second. 90% of what you call rude I call being to the point or even just plain helpful, there's very little in the way of personal attack it's all about the discussion. By pointing out "injustices" that are in fact honest attempts to help you're alienating people to the point where ad hominem's start to look tempting in their catharsis. There is clearly a clash of thought process but from my point of view it is your view of things that needs to bend. Not only do I deem the way you seem to take some things as grossly exaggerated or entirely missing the point, but if you keep your responses as they are hostility is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If I didn't know that communication is a tricky concept I could easily label your meta posts as trolling specifically to elicit hostility, ironic isn't it.

I once had an angle investor who had been previously a 'high-up" researcher in the Canadian military. It was interesting that every time he was about to tell us a story, he would have to pause and review in his memory to make sure that what he was about to tell us was no longer classified. Amongst the many lessons he shared, he told us that many times he and other senior researchers left meetings shaking to their cores for days, because of the importance of the work they were doing. They were informed of this in very loud, direct, and in no uncertain terms.... |

He's talking about how the thread has been offtopic for the last 3-4 pages. Discussion about the tone of debate, who is wrapped in what mentally or psychologically, et cetera isn't related to factoring and shouldn't continue in the factoring subforum, but the forum feedback subforum instead.
It's not helpful for people intersted in factoring and ECM to trudge through what is discussed right now here. |
