Good day folks!
I have an 18 core processor and two 1080Ti GPUs. I know that GPUs are not supported by GIMPS. I can not find out how to expand my available cores to 10 or so of them. I have plenty of cycles to spare! |

GPU's contribute a lot to the GIMPS project. There is software in the GPU Computing forum for your GPU's. You can use it to help factoring or LL tests. It does not use the Prime95 program, but there is other software.
As far as using all of the cores on your CPU, I will leave that to someone else to answer. Welcome to GIMPS, hope you enjoy the quest. |

In local.txt add:
CoresPerTest=10 WorkerThreads=1 or whatever number of cores you want to use. If you want to run more than 1 Worker (testing more than 1 number at the time): CoresPerTest=5 WorkerThreads=2 or CoresPerTest=2 WorkerThreads=5 |

While he didn't state it, ATH's earlier post was in the context of running prime95 or mprime. My impression is prime95 or mprime, or Mlucas, are the front runners for Intel processors; Mlucas also runs on other processor types. (Including certain cell phone models!) Since GTX1080Ti gpus are so much faster at trial factoring than other work types, mfaktc is worth looking at for them. Note that any of these will affect your power bill significantly, in proportion to how many hours per year you run the software. (At $0.114/kw-hr, each watt is ~$1/year; a kw, $83/month) GPUs are definitely supported for a variety of GIMPS work types. They are not supported for automatic work assignment and result reporting though through primenet. Hence the manual work assignment and result reporting at https://www.mersenne.org/manual_assignment/ etc. Or a separate helper application may be used. There are several of those. |

Another question and one that I should have included in the original question. Other than configuring the cores and GPUs what else can I do to expedite the process. (I am totally not worried about the electric bill the wife pays that lol) Here is a snap shot of what I am working with on the Normal side of the house.
Windows64,Prime95,v29.4,build 8 Model Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-7980XE CPU @ 2.60GHz Features 18 core, hyperthreaded, Prefetch,SSE,SSE2,SSE4,AVX,AVX2,FMA, AVX512F Speed 3.382 GHz (6.899 GHz P4 effective equivalent) L1/L2 Cache 32 / 256 KB Computer Memory 65412 MB configured usage 8 MB day / 8 MB night I seen that I am using all 18 cores too, just not how I expected to be. Also the machine isn't really even breaking a sweat yet. OldCpuSpeed=3383 NewCpuSpeedCount=1 NewCpuSpeed=3069 RollingAverage=1000 RollingAverageIsFromV27=1 WorkerThreads=5 ComputerGUID= RollingStartTime=1552102691 ComputerID=i9 SrvrUID=2030086785 SrvrComputerName=364452590 SrvrPO1=0 SrvrPO2=1 SrvrPO3=3 SrvrPO4=8 SrvrPO5=8 SrvrPO6=450 SrvrPO7=1410 SrvrPO8=1 SrvrPO9=5 SrvrP00=0 LastEndDatesSent=1552081194 RollingHash=1031136448 RollingCompleteTime=1719544 [Worker #1] CoresPerTest=3 [Worker #2] CoresPerTest=3 [Worker #3] CoresPerTest=4 [Worker #4] CoresPerTest=4 [Worker #5] CoresPerTest=4 Last fiddled with by keysarecool on 2019-03-09 at 03:58 |

But keep an eye on CPU temperature in the beginning when you use 29.6 and AVX512 to check if your cooling can keep up.

If you're also going to use your gtx 1080 ti GPUs, you will need:
(1) A hefty power supply to run all that stuff (2) A way to increase the fan rpm on the video boards to keep them cool. I use a free software utility called MSI Afterburner ( for windows only ). One last tip, if you're running windows 10, you will need a strategy to deal with the updates that just float in from the ozone and take over your machine, then reboot it. If you need help on that, just ask. |
