I need help to grasp whats heads and whats tails when it comes to memory channels
![]() I have to build a computer and has gotten to the point where I cannot think about maybe building a new any more. So far I´ve decided to go this way: Intel Core i7 9800X X-series - 3.8 GHz (CPU) MSI X299 RAIDER (Motherboard) Now this motherboard supports Quad channel memory and I have been doing a lot of digging and gotten more and more confused. I find lot of DDR4 memory on the website that sells the CPU and motherboard. I also when looking at some of the RAM, see "dual channel memory", but nothing with "quad channel memory". So far I have read that the Quad Channel Memory architecture is controlled by the i7 9800X CPU. So my question is, about this RAM: KVR26N19S8/8 (Kingston produced) or any other RAM running at 2666 MHz, will they give me the benefit of the quad channel architecture? If I buy 8x8 KVR26N19S8/8 will I have to sets of Quad Channel architecture on my computer? Do I have to set something in the motherboard to get the Quad Channel Architecture activated or is it on as soon as 4 similar blocks of RAM is installed properly in the motherboard? I do not intend to overclock, so no reason to suggest other RAM, unless they are less pricy ![]() Looking forward to hear what people with the proper knowledge has to say about "quad channel memory" and my questions. Thanks for any feedback Take care

![]() To achieve the best possible transfer speed, I chose DDR4 3600 (instead of 2666): Kingston HyperX Predator 32 GB (8x4)DDR4 SDRAM - 3600 MHz unbuffered CL17. To get the maximum from your setup, you should also setup your BIOS to choose XMP (Xtremes Memory Profiles) and choose the one that match with your RAM speed. |

So, as long as you populate all 4 memory slots with identical memory, you'll get quad-channel performance. |

But you're right in that it will take 4 sticks to populate the 4 channels. |

So if I´m reading your feedback right, I´ll have Quad Channel architecture utilized without setting anything in the motherboard settings as long as the memory sticks are identical?

I have 4 banks of RAM, and 8 available slots, and filled every other slot. |
