Very interesting.
Now if there was an AMD OpenCl emulator on NVIDIA CUDA, we could try gpuowl on them by emulation. (FAQ dated in 2015 claims: We are currently in the process of adding an OpenCL API front end to GPU Ocelot.)
I wonder what the performance hit due to emulation would be. The OpenCl version indications in CUDA 8.0 supporting NVIDIA drivers are OpenCl 1.2 and 1.1 (per GPU-Z), while gpuOwL uses a little of OpenCl 2.0. I wonder what the latest NVIDIA drivers supporting CUDA 9.x or 10. show for OpenCl support.
