At Computex they asserted there would be a 5GHz 28-core processor available by the end of the year.
I assume this will cost $8086 which makes it less than completely reasonable. |

Don't get your hopes up, the 5GHz is the single core turbo!
Edit: 7334 / 28 = 262 per core 262 / 113 = 2.3GHz which is not unreasonable for a 28 core with high TDP. scrap that, Anandtech has photos: https://www.anandtech.com/show/12893...u-coming-in-q4 Last fiddled with by VictordeHolland on 2018-06-05 at 11:59 |

Don't expect massive leaps from intel in the near future, their new process has not delivered yet so we're likely to just see heavy refinements of their existing lines (like the 8086K). IMO a "5GHz 28 core CPU" only exists to try and piss in AMD's cereal, intel will take the performance crown but unless they are actual magicians they aren't going to get yields and price performance to the point where it makes sense for most. It's a power move in response to Threadripper 2 coming out this year. The new upper TDP for TR2 is supposedly 250W (up from 180W for the 1950X), which is a much bigger % change than 2700X's 105W TDP vs 1800X/1700X's 95W TDP. The theory is that the 16 core TR2 will be able to boost beyond 4.35 GHz out of the box (I'd guess up to 4.5), but of course the wild speculation is that there may be >16 core parts using >2 CCX. I don't put much stock in the >16 core theory for memory layout reasons, but regardless I think TR2 coming out this year (possibly with a few refinements beyond two 2700X glued together) is putting the pressure on. |

6 memory channels. So most likely the server LGA3647.
I'd like to see if they can fit 12 DIMMs on to a standard ATX board. It might be possible if they move the 24-pin connector to the top or have it coming out horizontally. But either solution won't leave much room for VRM heatsinks unless they push the PCIe slots down one. |

More info from Anandtech
https://www.anandtech.com/show/12907...u-need-to-know So it is really all 28 cores @5.0 GHz, with a server socket (most likely LGA3647) with a water chiller of 1HP? and ridiculous amounts of VRMs (47) which require their own cooling with 4 fans. So it's a Frankenstein monster..... |

There _is_ a 5GHz turbo (4GHz all-cores) 6-core chip being launched: https://ark.intel.com/products/14826...up-to-5_00-GHz. So that might confuse the media a little about which 5GHz chip is a real product.

We would not trust an article which does not get the history right (like the best X series having only 8 cores? C'mon, it may have been true for 7xxx series, but we are the proud owner of a 6950X for almost 2 years now...).
