Well, after reading the lovely suggestions, my takeaway is that people enjoy the GIMPS sobriquet, warts and all, and would be loathe to change.

I also learned that in the big picture, GIMPS isn't so bad... it could have been far, far worse.

As much as I enjoy it though, I still wouldn't wear a t-shirt that said something like "I love GIMPS" as a celebration of my passion.

As one who is more gimpy by the day, I enjoy the name. Gimp is a noun, a verb, and an exclamation in this household.
Examples:
I am a gimp.
I'm gimping around.
(When standing after sitting for a while) "GIMP!" (as the lower back gets used to the change.)
