I don’t know if I'm doing anything wrong or if that's just the way its set up, but whenever I go to the manual testing tab and type the exponent I want to see if its prime, it gives me a different one. How do I get the exponent I typed in or do I even need to use that to test the exponent I want, can I just type the exponent into the software and then submit the results without even using the manual testing option?

Hi boss,
Welcome to Mersenneforum. I am unable to answer your question but I'm sure some people in this forum can. I always just choose 'whatever makes sense' in one of the menu options. Regards, Matt |

I look up the prime number I want to factor using the link on the post below yours (I already knew about it) and it says “No Factor under 2^XX” so I go to the manual testing tab and put in the exponent, click on trial factoring because I use a GPU, and it gives me a completely different number. I look and and the most recent update was a trial factor and it has been assigned but the person is doing ECM factoring. For example, I typed in 1277, this exponent has not been factored or determined prime, it gave me No trial factoring found, and it assigned me an ECM, when I go above 100 million it usually gives me a different number compleatly. Is this because it doesn’t want me to do that exponent with trial factoring and is there a way to avoid that?

The smallest exponent available for trial factoring with prime95 is around 171.2 million.
